What is Clicker Training and why do I want to do that?

Clicker training is scientifically based and a lot of fun!  Have you ever watched a dolphin show and wondered how they did that?  They utilize the same techniques, with whistles instead of clickers.  We’ll teach you the science of how dogs tick, how you have the power to affect change within them and how you control the resources that dogs want.  A Clicker is a simple tool Clicker Trainers use to clearly communicate to the animal precisely what it did that the trainer liked.   For more on Clicker Training, please visit:

www.ClickerTraining.com                         www.TAGTeach.com

If you have a hearing impaired dog, a small flashlight makes a great substitute!  This also works great for training fish!

Do I always have to use a Clicker?  What if I don’t have it with me?

No, you don’t, but we encourage you to really try it before you decide.  And we teach you what to do when you don’t have one handy, plus how to wean off of the clicker so you don’t need one for daily life for “forever”.

Why should I invest in puppy class and do I really need to?

That’s entirely up to you and what works in your budget and lifestyle.  Our Puppy Charm School is designed to boost your puppy’s socialization during the most critical period we call “the socialization window.”  Puppy Charm School is a class of puppies only, so there is off-leash play time and discussions on house training and puppy-only materials.  It is a great pre-school to our Life Skills Plus class, but certainly isn’t mandatory, because we use gentle, positive training you can start classes at an early age.

Are there health risks I might expose my puppy to?

Risks are associated with everything; we do require all puppies to have a wellness visit and a clear fecal exam by a licensed veterinarian before attending any event or class and students must provide proof of this at the first night of class.  You need to make a personal decision as to whether you feel socializing and training your puppy while possibly exposing him to something outweighs the risk of having an a-social, possibly aggressive, untrained dog in the future.   For your dog & puppy’s safety, we also highly advocate the use of secured crates and car seatbelt harnesses while traveling and always use a leash and never allow your dog to sniff or eat another animals’ scat.

I just want to get started on obedience training!  When can I?

Some schools don’t allow dogs to start classes until they are at least 6 months of age.  Our Life Skills Plus classes are for dogs and puppies.  We don’t have a minimum age requirement because it isn’t necessary— please do make sure your dog has had the shots we require.  Our Life Skills Plus class focuses on teaching your pet the skills they’ll need to succeed in this big world.   With Clicker Training,  the sky is the limit; this class will help you to lay a solid foundation for the rest of your life.
